About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Maria, Good plan for you and your students to follow. This way everyone will know when they reach the end of the course journey. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Yi, All good elements of a well prepared course syllabus. A very valuable instrument for students and instructors alike. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Margaret, I would assign the students different topics to report on. With six students you could have each student report a type or method of research that is relevant to the course. For example someone would research and report on using a case study approach or structured interview method. Any type of research that would get them looking at what role research plays in the advancement of a field. Help them to take a personal interest in what is being studied. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Frank, You make a very good point about the type of environment in which the students are located and what the expectations are when in those environments. The students need to learn what the distinction is and how to react within each. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michael, I think this is such a valuable way for your students to see the real world in which they are going to enter very shortly. The more of these types of opportunities the easier their transition will be into the workplace. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.

I have been teaching for over thirty years myself and still get excited about sharing with my students. The minute that I don't feel the passion for… >>>

Roark, It all depends on the individual and how he or she is processing the information. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dave, Observing other instructors can offer you many different strategies that will work in your classroom setting. I always like sitting in on other instructor's classes when I can. I always take something away from those sessions. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Laura, You have a very comprehensive approach to your professional development. I know you are going to have great results with these efforts. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Bart, What a great opportunity you had with this workshop. I know what you learned will help you to see additional ways to get your students engaged. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
