Bonita, Student feedback is a powerful improvement tool for instructors. The more feedback we get from our students the more accurately we are able to understand our course and how we can deliver instruction in an effective and efficient manner. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Bonita, You make a good point with your discussion in relation to connecting with students. They need to see that they are valued and that their instructor is there to support their learning if they are willing to put forth the needed effort. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Bonita, I agree it is good to know this information. This lets you customize your instruction so you can engage each student in a way that is personal for him or her. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
AMANDA, It is critical that the information about the course is covered in the syllabus. The syllabus is the informational source for students thus it needs to be clear and concise for ease of understanding. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
AMANDA, The first impression sets the tone for the class so we need to plan carefully and make the first session a rewarding, engaging and fun session. If we do this then it is a building process from there throughout the rest of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Julie, A clear and concise syllabus is a time saver and reduces frustration and anxiety in students. You make a good point about how the students need to read and understand the contents of the syllabus so they will know the polices, expectations and requirements of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Julie, We need to see the learning environment through the eyes of our students. When we do we can see the adjustments that need to be made to make the setting comfortable and supportive. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Julie, A great message to send your students. I know these instructional efforts are going to pay off for you and your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Julie, You did a good job of being prepared for the first class meeting. I like to open a new class with introductions and then an ice breaker where the students interact with each other and share some of their life experiences. These activities help the students to get settled into the class as well as help me get a feel for the demographics of the students so I can plan my instructional choices for future classes.
