About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Lori, Good way to blend instructional delivery options at different times throughout the class. This way you are offering variety of delivery and change of pace to keep your students engaged. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tiona, You are welcome. Glad that you are gaining some additional strategies to use in your teaching. I wish you continued teaching success and rewarding student growth. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tiona, A positive first impression is the foundation upon which the rest of the course is built so it is important to have a good first class meeting. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tiona, This is the value of a well prepared syllabus for students as well as yourself as the learning leader. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jenaro, I was just reading about this new wave of stranger to stranger violence. You do have something very current to discuss and strategize about with your students. I think this approach is so valuable because this method shows both relevancy and application of content and this increases the value of the course to the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tracey, This is the foundation of instruction. By being clear and honest you are setting the tone for your class and what your expectations are for your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cynthia, I am a big fan and user of grading rubrics for the reasons you list. They are so valuable in pointing out specific areas where points have been earned or lose so my discussion time with students about their points is greatly reduced. Thanks for sharing the value of rubric grading with us. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dylan, I limit the student introductions based upon class size. With smaller classes I ask students to respond to more questions about themselves. With larger classes I reduce the sharing to three main points so that the introductions don't last too long. With students that come in later I have them introduce themselves but not the other class members as I don't want to take that much time away from class since we have already covered the introductions in the first class meeting. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tammie, I congratulate you on this approach. This is how instructors need to share their content and get their students invested in the learning process. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Keyonta, Do have some examples you can share with us? Thanks. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
