About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Miriam, They are such a great resource for students to use. Thank you for sharing how they are working with your students. I know this information will be of help to other instructors that are thinking about using them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gary, Thank you for these good points about how to bring the different elements of good instruction to play in the classroom. This is what each instructor needs to set as a goal for quality instruction to occur. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Seth, Yes, it does because it brings value to the course content. Using current events to reinforce what is being taught helps to make the content come alive for students and shows how it is relevant to their career preparation. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ana, This is what good teaching is all about. We need to appeal to the different learning preferences of our students throughout the duration of the course. This is how we will keep them focused on what we are sharing. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tara, By using all three you are offering a change of pace and variety in learning delivery for your students. This is what will keep them engaged as they progress through the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tara, Your last sentence shows the value of a well prepared syllabus. Everyone needs to be on the same page in terms of expectations, polices and requirements for the course. The syllabus is the document that shares that information and is the guide for the duration of the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Seth, So true. What are some ways you create a positive first impression with your students? Thanks for input on this. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gail, This is such an important part of the learning climate. By providing emotional and professional support to your students you are showing them they you are there to help them move toward their career goals. I try to do the same as I teach in a classroom that has many different instructors in it so I must "sell" the value of the course to my students and hope the physical setting is good enough to keep the comfortable. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tara, These things can really influence the learning process. We need to look at our classrooms and labs through the eyes of our students and make any adjustments that are needed to help the environment to be supportive. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Seth, Great resource to make a part of your professional development and sharing with your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
