About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Linda, Well said. We need to look at the classroom or lab through the eyes of our students and then make adjustments as needed so we can answer "yes, we would want to learn here!" Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ashley, My experience as well. I don't understand my colleagues that come into class at the last minute without any preparation and then complain because the class did not go well. You get what you invest and you have outlined how to become invested. Thanks. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Malana, Great last sentence that reflects your dedication to teaching and impacting student lives. I wish you continued success as an educator. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Theresa, Two good professional development strategies to use in your educational growth. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Donna, This is a great resource that your college is offering you and your fellow faculty members. This has to be of a lot of help to you in professional development. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Shirley, We do need to adapt and adjust as we approach different classes. Each student group is different so we need to read that group and then develop a strategy that will reach them. This is one of the fun and challenging parts of our job. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Linda, This is an ongoing process for sure. It seems that every year I have to expand my knowledge of what kind of technology to use and when to use it in my courses. My students really help me with this as they are ongoing resources for me to call upon. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dave, Like your example because that is what teaching is really all about. We need to keep reminding our students of the progress they have made especially when they start to wear down toward the end of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ashley, This is such a great way to increase the value of your area (English) to the students. A lot of college students do not like taking gen ed courses so they resist and resent having to be in the class. You are helping them to not only expand their skills in this area but also express themselves in terms of writing about their lives. This creates a connection between their lives and school and this should lead to increased retention. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mark, You are right it is simple but many instructors seem to have problems with doing the things you list. When they don't then they wonder why their classes don't go well. Never ceases to amaze me. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
