About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Mark, Networking is a part of career growth so we need to work at expanding our network every chance we get. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
LeAnn, This is such a good idea because it sets the tone for success and helps student to feel that they are a part of something big in relation to their future. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Stephanie, This is so powerful for students. They need to know someone cares about them as individuals and believes in their potential for success. A person in authority that believes in them is even more important. As the instructor we are that person so we need to reflect the human factor in teaching as much as we can. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Thomas, Good question and one that is being asked by school all over the country. I have been working with a number of schools in trying to come up with solutions to this question. Some very good ideas out there but still nothing that covers the total financial aid need. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mark, Good point about knowing why students are enrolled and what their goals are for the course. Having such information greatly aids in the ability to target them with the content you select and how you deliver it. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Thomas, This information sets the stage for how you will approach your course. As a result you can customize your content to assist in the reaching of the stated goals your students have shared with you. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Stephanie, This is a growing challenge in our classrooms and labs. Getting students to engage in conversation and interaction rather than just texting is a struggle. The more group work we can incorporate the better to so our students will develop social interaction skills as well as technical skills. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.

Jeanie, I commend you for this effort as it creates for the students a support system that they can use while in school as well as after they graduate. Many students do not see the value of networking so they need to learn that many of the career opportunities that come along are shared through networking. Cohort groups become a learning community that supports each other, encourages success and helps when called upon. A learning community like this can make the difference between success or dropping out so the more help that can be provided in the creation a such… >>>

Joulette, I think you are doing a great service for your students by giving this global perspective in relation to the Allied Heath field and how their area of emphasis contributes to patient care. Having this perspective increases the value that their field represents and how they are going to be a part of a helping profession. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dave, Students like to have variety and change of pace in their instruction. You are doing both with your approach and this is what will keep your students engaged. I teach from 4 until 10 pm so I have 6 hours to program for and try to keep students focused for learning. It takes a lot of activities and planning but the pay off is well worth it when my students move onto the next level successfully. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
