About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Susan, You are using a method that I have found to be very effective with my generational learners. Small group work helps them to exchange information with each other and see that each member of the group has something to offer. I use a lot of case studies so they group members are working toward a common goal and as a result don;t think a lot about the age differences. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Matthew, Got it! A smile and a shared laugh goes a long way in helping the atmosphere of a class or lab. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kay, What are some ways you make a positive first impression with your students? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Joe, Students like variety and change of pace in their instructional delivery. You are doing both with your approach. This will increase their engagement as well as increase their retention of the content. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Matthew, Buy-ins are so important to student success. They need to see the value, relevancy and application of the content. When they do they will realize they are investing in their future. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rachel, Like your approach to starting a new class especially for older students coming back to school. They do need a boost in self confidence and your speech is sure to help them understand that their life experiences and the fact they have enrolled in school says a lot about their potential for success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kelsey, Thank you for these comments about how to use graphic organizers. These methods I know will be of help to other instructors that are considering using them in their classes. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Joe, Great to hear about your use of the different instructional strategies. Sounds like you have a variety in your instructional delivery and you have your students forward focused in the course. Keep up the great work. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Phillip, Passion for the field and enthusiasm for teaching about it goes a long way in helping "sell" the course to the students. Excitement is catching so have fun sharing it. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Phillip, This I think is a big resource for your students as you bring to them each time the class meets a current perspective from the field. They know that they are getting the latest information and best practices which in turn helps them to be even better prepared upon graduation. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
