About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Richard, I like the holistic approach to problem solving as well. I think this approach helps students to see the end results as well as the components that contribute to the whole. By seeing problems in this way I think we help our students be more effective problem solvers. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Shari, Right you are about excitement spreading. It is for sure if we are not excited about being in the class our students won't be either. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Arnitra, Good definition and one that will serve both you and your students well. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Seth, Passion for your field and enthusiasm for teaching about it are elements needed for student centered learning. Your excitement will spread to your students and that sets up a positive learning environment. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Seth, So true and so important. This is the human factor in teaching and gets students settled into a course and relating to you the learning leader. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Susan, As long as your college has not forbidden you to use other methods of instructional delivery I would explore them Take your basic PowerPoint and then see how you can use examples, experiences, discussions, and case studies to enhance the PPs. Observe what captures the attention of your students and gives good outcomes and then expand that activity. If you get student centered growth I don't think your college will be concerned with your use of instructional methods beyond the PP. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
LaShondra, What are some ways you project a positive first impression to your students? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Daniel, You make a very good point about setting the tone for a first class meeting. We need to make sure we project a professional image and show our students that we are their learning leader from which we can help them move toward their career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rachel, I think this is a great way to get your students to see the relevancy and application of this course. The more examples you can share the more engaged they will be and the more professional they will become. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Matthew, Yes, they are. It is fun to sit in on their classes once in a while. Always something to learn from another professional. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
