Activity

Paul, I really like the results I get when I use case studies in my classes. I use both individual work as well as group work when we work through the studies. The interaction that comes out of discussing these case studies help to reinforce the content that is being offered. In the end this format is a win win situation for all students no matter their age or reason for being in the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Paul, I think you will like the learning results you get from this effort. In addition, your students are going to appreciate how you are working to identify their learning preferences and then provide instruction within those preference areas. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Discussion Comment
Manuel, This is how course improvement is made. The more input we have the more information we have from which we can make revisions in our courses to be even more effective in our instruction. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Manuel, Thank you for sharing this personal example of how an instructor impacted your life as a student. This is what the human factor is about and we need to remember this as we interact with our students. A few minutes of time chatting with a student or helping him or her to understand a concept means so much to them and their success in the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Byron, These longer classes are tough. I teach a 6 hour class from 4 until 10 pm so I can relate to the planning that has to be done to keep a course of this length interesting to students. Variety and change of pace are two parts of the planning process that need to be included so students will remain engaged for the duration. Sounds like you have the right balance going for your students. Keep up the good work. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
John, You have a good blend in your instructional delivery. You are right about the need to help your students to personalize the content. The more relevancy and application they can see the more they will value the content. Keep up your efforts as they are impacting the lives of your students and how they are being prepared for their future. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Evelyn, As the learning leader you are helping your students to move forward with their learning. Through support and reinforcement you are helping them to acquire the needed knowledge and skills and keep their focus on their career development. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rochelle, You make a good point in terms of the protection aspect of a well prepared syllabus. A well prepared syllabus gives information to students about how the course will operate and what the expectations are. So if and when a question arises the instructor will be able to show that that information has been covered in the syllabus. This puts accountability on the students because they have in their possession course syllabus. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
John, You are on the right track with your professional development. All of these strategies will help you to expand your expertise as an educator. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cynthia, You make a key point and that is to be yourself as an educator. We all have our strengths as well as our issued since we are human. Taking the attitude that you do you can bring humor into the situation as you search for your glasses and reflects well on you as a human being that cares about her students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
