About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Elida, Yes it is. Good communication will earn the respect of students and forms the foundation upon which rapport is developed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rochelle, This is a supportive and ongoing method of keeping students informed about expectations, due dates, and projects. By following this method you are removing for them the excuse that they didn't know or wasn't told. This puts the success or failure factor on them and their dedication to their own future. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Marc, Yes, it does. The students need to see what the environment is going to be like in which they will be working. The classroom/lab is a good place to start that learning experience for them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Marc, This is how your professional growth is going to occur. You are going to expand your skills sets as a learning leader and become an instructor of merit by following these strategies. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Eric, They are great aides to students in helping them to see parts as well as the whole of what they are studying. By having a visual picture of this via the organizers they can see how each segment fits together. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Eric, This is such an important step because it increases the value of the course in the minds of the students. This is when they realize they are getting an ROI from their efforts. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Eric, Yes, it will. What are some strategies you use to help your students acquire the course content? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Eric, Good strategy to follow. Carving the content up in to segments helps students to get their minds around what is being taught so they can internalize that information and then get ready for the next course segment. Like answering the age old question of "how do you eat an elephant?" Answer: "One bite at a time." Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sharon, Everyone, including instructors get worn down as a course progresses. By remembering to refocus we can keep our instruction fresh and our students engaged. I am like you I love starting new classes and feeling the energy the new crop of students brings to the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rochelle, This is what student centered instruction needs to be about. Seeing the learning environment through the eyes of the students and then planning instruction to support their learning needs. This way the students will receive the support they need as they move closer to their career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
