About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Olivirgin, What are some ways you help them to feel comfortable? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Olivirgin, What are some ways that you get yourself ready for class? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dawn, Good point. We need to know our students and then build an instructional plan from there. This is how we will be able to earn their respect and develop rapport with them for the duration of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dawn, This is how customizing instruction should work. By knowing the learning preferences of your students you are able to zero in on their instructional patterns and then create learning pathways. This results in increased retention of content and a higher level of student satisfaction. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dawn, This is where being a creative instructor comes into play. We need to offer change of pace and variety to our learners. You are doing both with your methods and as a result you have engaged students for the duration of your four hour class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rochelle, The idea of helping them to verbalize short term goals is spot on because from these efforts students can start to get an idea of how to set long term goals and create a future for themselves. They need to internalize these goals if they are to get excited about achieving them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Discussion Comment
Glenn, This is how course improvement is brought about. The more input we can get the more ideas we have about how to make adjustments in our instruction. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rochelle, Yes, enthusiasm is contagious and we need to remember that as we approach the classroom or lab. We need to make sure we show our passion for our field and our excitement about teaching our content. This will help to "sell" the course to the students and increase their engagement. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Joe, What are some ways you keep your students interested in the course content? Thanks for sharing your strategies on this. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rochelle, What a great way to provide comfort and security for new students. By having them to the activities related to learning styles and then talking about support systems they get to see that they can be successful if they are willing to invest in the effort needed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
