About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Sean, With this approach you are providing support to the student by walking them down to Student Services but are not becoming a focal point of providing money or help to students with needs that are outside of the classroom. By doing so you are retaining your role as the learning leader and this is critical if you are going to continue to move the course forward. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jerry, Good way to get a "read" on your students. With information like this you can target your instructional content and delivery more accurately and with greater impact for your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sean, Good point and one we need to remember as we select and structure our instructional delivery. By customizing our approach this way we will be able to reach a wider range of learning preferences in our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
CHARLES, Good point and one we need to remember each time we enter the classroom or lab. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sean, Like the connection you make between the classroom and the work world. Students are in the class to prepare themselves to enter the workplace so they need to start thinking about the expectations of the class in relation to how they will act and apply themselves in the workplace. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sean, This is an important part of the orientation process. I know your students appreciate this investment in time and effort on your part to get the informed about the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sean, You make a key point with your comment about the syllabus leaving no surprises. This is important for the students to know from the beginning of the class. Make the expectations clear and the students will get settled into the course quickly and the class can move forward from there. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sean, This is good advice for us all to follow. We may be the learning leader but not the smartest person in the room. By using a cooperative format we all can learn and grow together. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Vincent, This is so important for instructors to do because the students need to personalize the content to increase their retention of the material. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Susan, This is a form of edutainment that gets students engaged and focused on the content. Students as you know love hearing these stories because they show the relevance and application of the content being taught. So keep up the sharing of these stories. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
