About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Mary, Passion for one's field goes a long way in retaining students as you mention. When you combine passion with enthusiasm for teaching about it then learning is going to occur and students will be motivated. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Andrea, I do to. I like knowing this information so I can see how I can support my students with their learning efforts and progress toward the career goals. This is how all of instructors make an impact on the lives of our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Andrea, This is what setting the stage for learning is all about. By implementing the strategies you have listed you are going to have a supportive learning environment with engaged students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Andy, Your graduates will be problem solvers throughout their careers so they need to develop a strong foundation in critical analysis and thinking. The better they are at it the more successful they are going to be in their careers. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Allison, Right you are. Instructors need to "read" their students and then provide support as needed to help them see the value of the content being shared as well as how the course fits into their career development. When this is done there should be a change in their attitudes and their willingness to continue in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gwo-Fang, This is a good approach to use because it lets the students work in their different learning preferences while allowing you to use different and creative ways to deliver your content. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Theresa, This is how you move your student from being passive to active learners. The more they are involved the greater the retention of content there will be. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gwo-Fang, These are two very important parts of the instructional process. The students have the model to work toward and the rubric in terms of how they will evaluated. This gives them good information upon which to draw as they expand their knowledge base. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gwo-Fang, This connection is what makes the course come alive and creates value for the students. They see the reason why they are taking the course and how it applies to their future success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Andrew, Good strategy and one that will yield valuable results in their career development. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
