About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Chad, The strategy of connecting your content with real work applications is a good one. This helps to make the content come alive and gives value to what you are teaching. The students start to see their future in what is being taught and how they can use that information and/or skill set in their career. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jeffery, Like your example of how learning can occur anywhere but it is for use it won't be as effective. We need to strive to create a supportive environment for our students so we can get them engaged and focused on why they are there. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, Well said about how the environment impacts the emotions of the students. We need to bring a dynamic class to our students each time we meet with them. This is why we need to have passion for our field and enthusiasm for teaching about it. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Anthony, Like the modeling you are doing for your students. I agree that a learning leader can make a difference through conduct, dress and professional actions as the students develop their own identity with the field. This is a very important role for us to play and we need to always remember the importance of it both within the classroom and the total school environment. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Chad, It is a must for instructors to stay current in their field. If they don't then they are doing a disservice to their students to their students and their profession. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cynthia, You have two very important components of the learning process working for you with this approach. You are showing application and relevance to your students. When they see these two elements they see a connection to their future and why they are in the course. Keep up the good work. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Allison, The more real you can make your content as well as user friendly the better. You are doing both based upon your comments. If you can get them to the point they can speak and write well you will helped them to make a major step forward in their career development. As workers in the field of culinary arts they are going to be called upon to communicate with customers and fellow workers so they need to see the value of your efforts. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cathy, Students like change of pace and variety in their learning delivery. You are doing both with your approach and I know this increases their engagement in the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cathy, Good plan and one that reduces student frustration and increases their knowledge of how they are going to fit within the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cathy, This is the learning map they will be following so it needs to be clear and concise. From day one they need to see why they need to refer to it so they will be informed of the course requirements, policies, and projects. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
