About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Chanel, Students need a lot of experience in developing their reasoning skills. The more we can use case studies, role playing, etc., the better prepared they will be to solve problems out in the work world. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Chanel, Good advice because so many people think in segments and not in a big picture way. The more you can help them to think big picture the easier it will be for them to see the segments. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
David, I think this is a great way to expand your understanding of how to more effectively deliver instruction. By seeing teaching from both sides you are able to develop your own style of instruction. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Christie, Well put. This is why it is so important for us to remember that we are always "on stage" in terms of being role models, even when we are not in a classroom or lab setting. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Soneka, You make a very good point about the role humanity plays in the workplace. The emotional intelligence of students and how they perceive their role in their profession goes a long way in helping them to fit into the class and interacting with others. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Chris, So true. We need to have passion for our field and be enthusiastic about teaching our content. Both of these elements will help to "sell" the course to the student so they can see the relevance and value of what is being taught. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Soneka, This is a great way to gain insight into the learning preferences of students as well as some of the emotional intelligence the students are bringing to the class. Knowing this enables instructors to more accurately customize instruction and get students engaged in the learning process. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Katherine, Thank you for sharing your story with us. I love hearing stories like this because it shows just as you mention that with self discipline and effort success can be achieved. I congratulate you on your progress thus far and am excited as you close in on your completion of your dissertation. You will soon be a new doc and helping to advance the educational growth of your field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Steven, I wish you much success as a new professional in our field. You have a clear understanding of what you want to accomplish with your students and this understanding is going to help you as you work with your students. By bringing your passion for your field and enthusiasm for teaching about it to class each time it meets you are going to be able to engage your students and help them move forward in their career development. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Katherine, This is such an important part of the total planning process for instructors. Yes students need to have a strong foundation of knowledge as well as skill sets that will enable them to care for patients in a professional and humane way. Your point about this balance is a good one as educators in your field strive to prepare the next generation of health care professionals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
