About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Pamela, What are some ways you go about developing rapport with your students? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Steven, Thank you sharing this example and the impact it had on you and your instructional approach. The human factor is a major part of why we are teaching. We need to realize the influence we have on the lives of our students and the models we are for them as they prepare to enter into their chosen careers. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Pamela, I support your setting of high standards. We are educating students to be successful in their chosen career areas. We need to set our standards at the same level as business does. To do less is to turn out under trained individuals and that reflects badly on our programs and schools. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kale, This is a great way to get students engaged. Seeing what previous students have done sets the bar for them and increases their motivation because they know they are going to learn how to do these projects in the coming course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Marion, One of the most valuable tools a teacher has--consistency. The students need to know that their instructor is going to be consistent in expectations. If they are uncertain they become frustrated very quickly. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sheniqua, Like the variety in learning opportunities you are offering your students. This variety I know assists them in keeping their focus for the duration of each class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Anita, Great way to let your students know you are there to help them be successful. This way they know they have a learning leader and it is up to them to make sure they put forth the needed effort to be successful in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
MacDameon, How do you share the course requirements with your students? How do you hold them accountable for having reviewed the requirements and knowing they are ready to proceed to the next step in the course? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Fraternidad, This is a comfortable way of getting a new class started off. All of you get to know more about each other while getting settled into the course. Then they will be ready to review the syllabus and see how the course is going to operate. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.

Anita, Not sure I can give you a solution to this situation as it has so many components that need to be addressed. It appears that there need to be some coordination on the part of the administration in terms of how courses will be assigned, who will be allowed to enroll and what the standardized components of the course are going to be. Until these items are taken care of this chaos is going to continue. I commend you for your ability to cope at least externally with this situation.
