About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Chasidy, Good point. We can never lose sight of the human factor in our instructional approach. By keeping this in mind we will be able to connect with our students and provide support as needed. Gary
Hi Diana, Right you are about the need for rapport in all situations. We all need to relate to others if we are going to be effective in our lives, be they our students, business people or family. Gary
Hi Allison, Good point. Time is too short to spend it doing rote tasks that have little or no value in the grand scheme of things. Relevancy needs to be a part of the planning process when selecting tasks for students to complete. Gary
Hi Adrienne, Right you are about personal motivation. Excitement is contagious so the more excited we are the more are students are going to catch the spirit. This leads to a great situation for learning and personal growth. Gary
Hi Laura, This is so true. We need to always see the total person as we approach the instructional process. By doing so we will be able to better meet the individual needs of our students. Gary
Hi Suzanne, You are right on with your comments about the need to conduct yourself as a professional. It really bothers me when I hear an instructor trying to talk like the students without regard for his/her status as an educator. We need to show our students the language of our field so they can represent themselves well when they are out in the work world. Gary
Hi Alicia, This is critical and I am glad you mentioned it in your comments. Confusion only leads to frustration and no one benefits from that. Gary

Hi Kim, You are right about the effectiveness of student feedback. What are the ways you go about getting feedback from your students. Gary
Hi Cyndy, Right you are about the challenges of keeping students engaged and focused on the class. I teach evening and night classes so my students are tired and it is easy for them to slip into near comas. I keep the class moving and active so they will want to come to class and learn even after a hard days work. Gary
Hi Cyndy, Students really like hearing examples and about experiences that their instructors have had. Helps them to see relevancy in what they are studying and application to the content they have acquired. Good job of doing this with your students. Gary
