Hi Cynthia, Thank you for these excellent remarks on how you can be successful as an older or non-traditional student. As you know many students think they are the only ones going through these stressful situations as they are trying to complete school. By knowing their instructors have gone through it and that their peers are going through it they can see that by determination and effort they can do it as well. Good example of a simple strategy for completing part of an assignment with their child "helping" by coloring their paper while you are working on your own.… >>>

Hi Kore, Right you are. If you aren't excited it is for sure the students won't be. Being excited and enthusiastic about the content and sharing it you are showing that you are a professional that wants to help prepare others to enjoy working in the field as well. This is important for students to know. Gary
Hi Renetta, I agree with you about the need for a clear syllabus. With the information from the syllabus the students know what the expectations are so they can focus their energy on satisfying those requirements. A well prepared syllabus also reduces many student questions because they are covered within the syllabus. Gary
Hi Jason, By connecting the dots between the classroom and the real world the students start to appreciate the information they are receiving and how it can be applied to their lives. This is what education is all about. You are right on with your comments about how this can be done. Gary
Hi Betty, Your comments are so true. What are some strategies you use to help keep you excited about your content and teaching? Gary
Hi Rosemarie, How do you go about getting information about your students when starting a new class? Thanks in advance for your input. Gary
Hi Chasidy, This is so true. Students need to feel valued for what they bring to the class and the contributions they can make. When they don't feel such they start to withdraw within in the class and soon they withdraw period. Gary
Hi Joseph, Dead on! Gary
Hi Joseph, You can't put the message out there too much for students. Your method of reinforcement is a good way to keep them on schedule and knowledgeable about all that is going to occur. Gary
Hi Joseph, The Socratic method is a great strategy to use to pull the thinking out of students. This method causes them to think which is one of the reasons they are in school, though many of them don't think so. Gary
