About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Jasmine, There are four major areas or preferences that students take in new information through. Written word, visualization, auditory, and tactile. Plan your delivery to cover these four areas and you will be hitting on your students' different learning preferences. This means that your students no matter their backgrounds or experiences will have opportunities to learn new content within their comfort zone (learning preference) at different times throughout the course. This way each student will have ample opportunity to be successful. Gary
Hi Allen, Right you are about the need for the personal approach to teaching. The human factor has to be present if rapport is going to be developed and respect earned. Keep up your good work you are creating a legacy of professionalism for your students. Gary
Hi Allen, Thank you for sharing these different instructional strategies. I know these will be of great help to other instructors that are looking for ways to remember names and ramp up their instructional approach. Gary
Hi Luis, You make a good point. Helping the students to understand relevancy and application of course content is very valuable in helping them achieve their career goals. Gary
Hi Luis, I commend you for you willingness to stay current and reflect the content of your field in a way that appeals to today's students. This is the sign of a truly commented professional educator. Keep up the good work. Gary
Hi Jennifer, Way to go with your professional development. You are current so you can share the most current trends, techniques and equipment with your students. This is what being a quality instructor is all about. Gary
Hi Mia, Good way to get to know your students. By knowing their reasons for enrolling and what their goals are you can customize your approach to make sure you are helping them make progress toward those goals. Gary
Hi John, I like this approach a lot. I use this same method in my classes with the same great results that you are getting. All the students become involved and the resulting discussions and problem solving solutions really help to expand the learning of the students. Gary
Hi Jennifer, This is a good way to make sure that all the details of the course and professional expectations are covered. There is accountability with the signing of the paper saying they have received the material and have had it explained to them. Gary
Hi Dian, Good points all about how to engage students in the learning process. Your last point captures something that all instructors need to work on and that is providing opportunities for the students to see themselves on a success trail. This way providing motivation will help to keep them enrolled and moving toward their career goals. Gary
