About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Johnny, Seasons greetings to you as well. I wish you a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. Appreciated your statement. Simple yet right on the point. Gary
Hi Cathy, This is so true. This is why we need to introduce a change of pace or new activity about mid-course to help both the students and ourselves to REFOCUS and get excited about the reason we are teaching/learning in the first place. Gary
Hi Kescia, This is very important for students to have. If they are comfortable they can focus on the course content better. What are some ways you make your classroom comfortable for your students? Thanks in advance for your input. Gary
Hi Grace, This is a great way to show your students application and relevancy. By bringing in such current events you are showing them that what they are learning today can be used today. You are helping them to connect the dots between the classroom and real life. Gary
Hi Adrienne, Good question. Yes, it can but as an instructor you are starting with some challenges. An instructor that makes a very poor first impression needs to do a self inventory of why the impression was poor and then create a strategy for overcoming that impression. Each time the class meets an instructor should make sure that the thing that causes the poor first impression is totally removed from the teaching delivery and the students will slowly move away from that poor first class meeting. Gary
Discussion Comment
Hi Delia, Good point about student feedback. How do you get feedback from your students? Once you get the feedback how do you use the information to incorporate changes in your instructional delivery? Gary
Hi Michael, Good point and well said. By knowing ourselves we are creating a base from which we can operate. Then we can expand on this base to include different instructional strategies and techniques that are customized to the current class. Gary
Hi Billie, What a great way to engage the students. I like the use of the incomplete emails and directions. This puts the students on the lookout for them so they are making applications of their newly acquired knowledge in their personal lives. This is what learning relevancy is all about. Gary
Hi Elizabeth, Good start to your teaching career. You are doing the right things, so keep up the good work. Gary
Hi Todd, Well said. A supportive comfortable environment is essential for students. They need to know that you their instructor is there to help them be successful if they will put forth the effort. If they are going to put forth the effort then nothing is going to help them succeed. Gary
