About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Dr. Kim, This has been my experience as well. I need to be supportive of these students at the beginning of the class because they often are unsure about how to take notes and get settled back into the "being a student" routine. Has this been your experience as well? Gary
Hi Jacqueline, This is a good way to set the stage for your students. They know you are there to help them and that you are going to treat them as the adults they are. In return you expect them to put forth the effort to be successful in the course. This creates a win win for everyone if they follow through with their part of the agreement. Gary
Hi Sylvia, This is so true. If we aren't excited then it is for sure our students won't be. Enthusiasm generates more enthusiasm which makes for a win win situation for everyone. Gary
Hi Daniel, In what way? What are some key things you look for as you are trying to encourage and support your students? Thanks in advance for you input on this discussion. We instructors are always looking for additional strategies we can use in our classes. Gary
Hi Julie, This is a good point in relation to knowing your students. By knowing more about them you can customize your delivery to target their learning preferences. Gary
Hi Regina, Approach your first class with the idea that you are going to use your best human relations skills and common sense and you will be fine. I wish you much success in your teaching career. Gary
Hi Samuel, This is an important part of being a supportive instructor. The reasons you listed for returning assessment grades by the next class are dead on. Knowing their results quickly can be so valuable to students as they move forward in the course. Gary
Hi Judy, This understanding is going to work well for you as you plan your instructional delivery. This way you can "target" your content more and help your students with a higher level of knowledge retention. Gary
Hi Heidi, I wish you much success in your new approach to incorporating the different delivery techniques with your classes. I know your students are going to benefit greatly and you are going to enjoy see their success. Gary
Hi Talina, This is a wonderful opportunity for you to gain valuable knowledge and experience from these fellow educators. They will be able to help you with your professional development in practical and supportive ways. Gary
