Activity

Hi David, Right you are. Gary
Hi David, The more we can creative a connection between the classroom and the real world the easier the transition is going to be for the students. So doing what you are doing is a great way to help them see what their next step is going to be in their career development. Gary
Hi Mary, You make a good point in relation to presenting course content. In addition to helping the students get the material as they filter through it the variety helps instructors stay fresh in the material because of the variety of instructional methods they get to use. Gary
Hi Reese, Thank you for your comments about the diverse student populations we are working with. Those that really don't have the skills or don't want to apply themselves are going to remain a challenge for us. Those that put forth the effort help us to remain in the classroom and trying our best because we are making a difference in their lives. Gary
Hi David, Great strategy. This keeps the flow of the class from becoming boring while helping the students to remain engaged. Gary
Hi David, This is a very good point and one that needs to be remembered as instructors develop their syllabus or even if they use a standard one from the college. It is an agreement that this is what will be provided and the student will complete the work outlined within the syllabus. Simple and straight forward for both parties to understand and follow. Gary
Hi Marisa, This is a great way to connect the classroom to the community plus the students get to apply what they are learning. The exposure should help them to make application of what language they have acquired and then expand the use of the language. Gary
Hi Roger, I agreed with your stance on professional dress. As you say it sets the tone for the earning of student respect and gets the class off to a good start. It also helps to set the boundaries for the instructor showing that he/she is the class leader and manager. Gary
Hi Jason, You make a number of very good points about the value of getting to know your students and helping them achieve success. This is what gives reward to us as instructors. A student "ah-ha" moment makes preparing and coming to class well worth it. Thanks for sharing your perspective. Gary
Hi Reese, You are teaching in my opinion a very valuable course. I am pleased to hear that some students recognize that and take the course for their own growth. Effective communication is essential for career growth and success. I am sure those that take it as a requirement also see the value of it as a result of your efforts to make your content relevant. Gary
