About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Elizabeth, Great connection between academic competence and career application. The more of these connections that can be created the more value students will see in their support courses. Gary
Hi Talina, Good strategy. I teach the same students in a 6 hour block from 4 until 10. I know what you are going through in trying to keep them engaged. Keep up the good work because it sounds like you are keeping them focused for the entire class session. Gary
Hi Tim, Good comments about how to create a connection between the instructor and students. Knowing they have the support of their instructor is critical for students as they move through their educational program. The stronger the connection the greater the rapport is going to be. This is a win win for everyone. Gary
Hi Bindu, Good strategy. Sounds like it was very successful for your students. Keep up this good work because you are helping the students to feel comfortable in the learning setting. Gary
Hi Lori, Good plan for professional development. You can gain so much from watching others teach. While observing them you may want to make a list of questions to ask them later to make sure your observations are accurate so you can use some of their strategies in your instructional delivery. Gary
Hi Timothy, I know this strategy will be successful for you next time you teach a class. You might want to add a ice breaker along with the introductions to help your students get settled into the class. Gary
Hi Andrew, Good way to create rapport with your students. This connection is so important so the students can see how a professional in their field conducts himself. Gary
Hi Donna, Good comments about how to keep fresh in delivering content. As you say the variety is essential to meet the individual student needs as well as keeping engaged yourself. Gary
Hi Jay, The key is the ROI for students just as you mentioned. The more we can illustrate this to our students the more engaged they are going to be. Thanks for the input. Gary
Hi Tiffany, Good points all about the value of a well prepared syllabus as well as how it can be used. The syllabus sets the tone for the class along with the first class meeting introductions and activities. In combination with each other the stage is set for a very successful course to come in the minds of the students. Gary
