About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Marie, Good points about how students can achieve success. Clear goals and objectives really help keep the students forward focused and seeing that they can achieve the career goals they have set for themselves. Gary
Hi Tanner, Good points. Variety in instructional delivery and lecture really helps to keep students engaged and focused on the content just as you said. Gary
Hi Joana, I don't grade them but I look them over. I do this to send the signal to my students that I value the completion of the guided notes and they should as well. My reviewing them gets them to complete them without much encouragement on my part. Gary
Hi Michael, I call this "connecting the dots" to form a picture for the students. Sometimes they can get worn down and forget why they are in the course in the first place. They need to be reminded of how far they have come and how close they are to achieving their career goals. Gary
Hi Michael, Great to hear and I wish you much success in all of your teaching efforts. Your students will benefit from your knowledge of the field and dedication to their success. Gary
Hi Patrick, Good point. Knowing your students is so important in relation to teaching success. The more you know the better you will be able to target the supports they need when they need them. Gary
Hi Kamille, Yes, they will. Respect is a two way street and has to be earned by both parties. This is why the instructor needs to know as much as he/she can about the students so he/she can provide the needed support at the right time. Gary
Hi Betty, All key components of reflecting what a professional educator should be. These characteristics provide a model for the students in the class as well as for the field. Gary
Hi Richele, Great list for all instructors to follow. If they do then they will be reflecting a professional appearance and attitude. Gary
Hi Aimee, I agree with you about the importance of learning from our setbacks. No one is entitled to anything even though many students today believe that. So we need to help them learn from their mistakes and show them how they can achieve their goals if they are willing to put forth the effort. Gary
