About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Mildred, You make a good point about how your students like mini-lectures. Learners like variety and changes in the pace of the class. With mini-lectures you can give them both while moving the class forward with both content and skill development. Gary
Hi Marvin, There is a saying that goes with your approach. "To teach is to learn twice." I this method really helps students to learn and then apply the content since they are sharing it with others. So they need to know how to approach the material from a number of different ways. Gary
Hi Mildred, Right you are about all of the planning that needs to be done prior to the class starting. By having the planning done the instructor can concentrate on the students and their learning needs. Gary
Hi Mildred, By sharing your career experiences I know you are going to be able to create even stronger connections with your students. I wish you much success in all your teaching efforts. Gary
Hi Donte, Good strategy. What are some of the ways you go about getting the students involved in discussions? Thanks for your input on this. Gary
Hi Diana, Good point and one that instructors really need to follow. They need to understand that respect is a two way street and it must be earned by all those involved. Once respect is established then rapport follows and learning greatly increases. Gary
Hi Tanner, You make a good point about the need for introduction of course content in such a way that the students know what is coming. This way they can make informed decisions about whether they are in the right field or not. It is too expensive to make too many wrong choices concerning their career selection. Gary
Hi Richele, You are right on with our instructional planning and delivery. You are offering variety, change of pace and application options within your teaching. This is a win win situation for both the students and yourself. Gary
Hi Marie, You make a good point of how instructors can benefit from student feedback. If we review the feedback and then translate that feedback into instructional improvement then everyone involved will have made a different in the learning process. Gary
Hi Vicki, Good point about encouraging students to ask questions and get involved in class discussions. All of these efforts are what help to contribute to the total education of the students. The more their become involved the greater their learning return will be. Gary
