About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Edmund, Well said about how to put together the syllabus so it has value to the students. They need to see that it is one of the key communication devices for the course so they need to read it and understand what it contains. This will help to reduce their concerns and frustrations. Gary
Hi Lois, What a great way to start a class off. I like the way you share information and how you are engaging the students in the process by having them share what they are bringing to the table/bed. This keeps their focus where it needs to be and that is on the patients they will be caring for. Gary
Hi Misty, This approach gives the students a clear understanding of how the course is going to operate and what they need to do to be successful. This gets the class going and helps the students to be forward focused. Gary
Hi Desmond, I like the fact that you have them sign off to the fact that they have been through orientation and that they know what the expectations of the course are. This greatly reduces any confusion and frustration. Gary
Hi Timothy, Good approach to encouraging your new students. You are so right about their fears and anxieties when starting college. They need encouragement and reassurance that they can be successful if they are willing to put forth the effort. The key is their buying into the effort process because they have to earn success it will not be gifted to them nor are the entitled to it. Gary
Hi Lois, Your students are fortunate to have an instructor like you. You set both the ethical and professional standards for your profession. This is so important because you are dealing in people's lives and so the highest ethics must be practiced. Thanks for sharing these goals. They are inspiring for everyone. Gary
Hi Daniel, Simple yet powerful advice for all instructors. Gary
Hi Toshia, I do to. My students really get engaged when I use them. I think they are a powerful learning tool. They also help the content to come alive and become real to them since they have to make decisions about how to approach different situations. Gary
Hi Daniel, You have given some very good advice for instructors. Sometimes new instructors feel overwhelmed with all that they have to do. By stepping back and thinking about how to approach the classroom with creativity as you mentioned they will be able to meet the needs of their students. Thanks for sharing with us this information. Gary
Hi Jeff, So important to help students see they can be successful. It is great that you have the ability to instill within them the success factor. By them feeling they can be successful their confidence will help them to be successful since they have a supportive instructor like you. Keep up the impact you are having on the lives of your students. Gary
