About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Williams, Great job of offering your students a balance of opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills. This way you are appealing to their total knowledge base rather than just through testing. I know your students really appreciate this approach. Gary
Hi Dr. Volz, Well said. I am surprised at the number of instructors that don't have clear goals and objectives for their classes and students. I couldn't teach without them because I wouldn't know where I was trying to go and it would be sure that the student's wouldn't know what is going on. Gary
Hi Edmund, I use a grading rubric as well and it really helps making the grading process easier and more understandable for the students. I have found that a rubric reduces the time I have to spend talking with students about their grades. When they receive 80 out of 100 that is very generic. But when those 80 points are located in specific categories then the student and I and zero in on the specific section where there are questions and have a discussion. Has this been the case with you? Gary
Hi Misty, You are using a good approach to identifying the learning preferences of your students. As you get to know your students you will be able to target your delivery as well so everyone will benefit from your effort. Gary
Hi Kim, What are some ways you have found to be effective as you encourage and support your students? Gary
Hi Jonathan, You are giving your students some great advice on how to be successful as college students. Many of them don't know how to organize their study efforts do well know how to study. Your pointers are valuable for them to follow. This way they know how to be successful if they are willing to follow your advice. Thanks for sharing these strategies with us. Gary
Hi Jonathan, You have made a number of very good points about how students can see success in their future as a result of a supportive instructor. This is so true and something we need to remember as we approach the classroom each time. Thanks for the well made points. Gary
Hi Desmond, Great to hear that you have someone you can observe and ask questions of. Sharing knowledge and expertise with one another is so beneficial in professional growth. Gary
Hi James, The more examples you use the more real the content becomes for students. So find as many as you can and use them often. Gary
Hi Marina, This type of course could be very beneficial to you. In addition, it can help you to develop your personality as a speaker since effective communication is the key to teaching success. I wish you much success as an educator. Gary
