About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi John, In situations like this there should be some type of pretesting to help proper placement of students in different classes and career programs. This way the students can use their intelligences and skills to be successful. Gary
Hi John, In situations like this I create learning teams composed of experienced and inexperienced students working together on case studies or problem solving situations. This works very well in their sharing of their experiences with each other as the work toward solutions. Gary
Hi Christian, Prompt feedback is so important to students as you know. Thanks for bringing it up in this discussion. Instructors need to keep this strategy in mind as they receive student work and then evaluate it. The sooner the material can be returned the more involved the students will be in the learning process. They want to know where they are at in terms of course progress and this really helps them with this. Gary
Hi Jennifer, Well said. This is an important part of our jobs. The more motivation opportunities we provide the greater the retention rate is going to be for our students. Keep up the encouragement. Gary
Hi Daniel, Right you are about instructional planning. It makes it so much easier for everyone when proper planning has been done prior to class rather than trying to just muddle through. Gary
