I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Trevor, Right you are. Simple and forthright in terms of creating an atmosphere of excitement that will increase student motivation. Gary
Hi Bridgette, Right you are about respect. Respect is earned not gifted so you need to be providing your students with ways they can earn your respect and you theirs. It sounds like you have a great way of making this happen. Gary
Hi Shaun, Great to hear. Your excitement will help the students to get excited and motivated about what they are studying. Gary
Hi Shaun, This is so true. Without acceptance students never settle into the course and start to move forward in learning. The more we can get them feeling comfortable at the beginning of the course the higher the retention will be. Gary
Hi Tanya, Well said concerning your comments covering the learning process. There has to be investment, effort and purpose if students are going to be successful. We need to set the stage for all of these components to come together to increase their learning effectiveness. Gary
Hi Sandra, It is amazing to watch students put it together when they are able to take course content and make application. You are right about the motivation soaring. They see relevancy to their learning. Gary
Hi Gitthaline, This is a tough situation to handle if you are a fellow faculty member. The Dean of Instruction needs to be made aware of the situation and then meet with such faculty. The inconsistency is the hard part because it causes all kinds of problems with students since they don't know who they should listen to. Gary
Hi James, You make a very good point about how to bring a professional atmosphere into the classroom. All of the components you listed need to be made a part of your instructional planning. Gary
Hi Pamela, Good plan. I think you are going to have success with both classes in addition to having fun teaching them. Gary
Hi Robert, Great way to "connect the dots" for your students. The more you can bring their own life experiences into the classroom the greater the content retention is going to be. Gary
