About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Doreen, Thanks for sharing your point on how to keep the students on track for learning. You are right that they can fuss a bit at each other and lose sight of why they are in the class. By bringing them back to the reason for being there you can help them to continue to be forward focused and making progress toward their career goals. Gary
Hi James, This is very important to do each time you start a new class. What are some methods you use to make your expectations clear to your students? Thanks for your input on this. Gary
Hi Trinidad, Good application of the multiple intelligences. I know you are going to increase your ability to get your students more focused and engaged as they work through the course content. Gary
Hi James, Good way to lay a solid foundation for developing instructional strategies that will meet the needs of your students. You are giving them ample opportunities to work within their learning preferences. Gary
Hi Edwardo, Yes, they are. The more students can learn about each other and you the instructor the easier it will be for them to feel accepted and a part of the course. Gary
Hi Trinidad, Good strategies that I know will enhance content retention for your students while increasing your skill as an instructor. This sets up a win win situation for everyone. Gary
Hi James, So true and it helps to keep the students focused on the course due to the excitement level being brought to the learning environment. Gary
Hi Denise, Great to hear and glad to hear that this part part of career development is part of your instructional offering. Students need to have the soft skills if they are going to be successful in the workplace and your employers are telling you that you are doing that for your students. Gary
Hi Evelyn, This is an important part of teaching. I call this "connecting the dots" in terms of students seeing how what they are learning can be applied to their field and help them move forward with their career development. Gary
Hi Edwardo, Good point about having a well developed syllabus. It can answer many student questions and help to get them focused on course outcomes. Gary
