About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Jumana, Good professional development for staying current. I find that doing these types of activities help me to stay fresh in the classroom as well. Gary
Hi Tessie, Adjusting your instructional delivery to meet the needs of your students is a great way to keep them engaged as you know but many instructors are unwilling to do this. So your ability and willingness to do such illustrates how you are demonstrating your professionalism while meeting student needs. Gary
Hi Christopher, It takes work I do know that. But by continually presenting examples of professionalism and bringing in guest speakers from the field to talk about it the message does get through to most of them. Gary
Hi Kimberly, Good way to set the stage for success. If they know you are there to help and support them you will have created a great foundation upon which to build. Gary
Hi Joshua, Good way to set the stage. Show them the human side while letting them know you are organized and prepared to teach. This will move the course forward in a positive manner. Gary
Hi Susan, Good advice. Need to always keep this in mind because it is easy to focus on those that respond quickly. Gary
Hi Edwardo, Great way of getting student participation and interaction. This lets them integrate the new content into their working memories so they increase their content retention. Gary
Hi Misty, You are right on with your ideas about how to develop and deliver effective lectures. The more interaction, variety and media you can inject in the lecture the more engagement you are going to have. We instructors need to remember this as we do our instructional planning. Gary
Hi Evelyn, Good step by step sequencing of learning. This way your students not only have the skills but they have the knowledge as to why such procedures are done like they are. Gary
Hi David, Good reminder about letting the student know and observe how you feel about having the opportunity to instruct them. These are key points in the development of respect and rapport between instructors and students. Gary
