About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Stephen, Sounds like a very interesting course because I think we all have had to do battle with insurance companies and the government. It is a common curse we all are familiar with and have encountered so the discussions I know are lively. Gary
Hi Felix, I really like to use advisory committees as well. They give input that helps to shape my course content. Thanks for bringing up this important resource for us to use. Gary
Hi Stephen, Both of these introduction components help to create a foundation for moving the course forward. You all (both you and students) have something in common in terms of understanding each other and the course content. Gary
Hi Bronwen, I agree. This information helps to create a connection between you and the students right at the beginning of the course. This gives them and you a reference point from which to operate. Gary
Hi Karen, Yes, students really like stories and examples from their instructors on how things happened in the field. So bring in the stories and let them reinforce the content you are sharing. Gary
Hi Susan, Right you are. We don't always know what in their backgrounds causes them to behave like they do so the more support we can provide the greater their motivation can become. Gary
Hi Audrey, Good information about how to work with diverse student groups. You are right classes have their personalities and so we have to adapt and adjust our instructional delivery to make sure we keep them engaged throughout the course. Gary
Hi Amer, I agree with you about the need for and benefits of student involvement. Involvement like this really helps to create a connection with the content for the students. Gary
Hi David, Welcome to teaching. I know you are going to have a great time sharing your knowledge and expertise. You have a good professional development plan laid out so keep at it and continually look ways to incorporate new strategies into your course and you will become a master teacher before you know it. Gary
Hi John, Welcome to teaching. I wish you much success in this new endeavor. You have a good plan so I know you are going to meet with success and satisfaction and have a great teaching career. Gary
