About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Terry, Right you are about falling into a rut. What are some strategies you use to prevent falling in such ruts? Thanks for you input on this. Gary
Hi Doris, You are so right in terms of setting the tone. We have to make sure that we show the students how the class is going to operate and what our expectations are. Once they know these two things they can internalize what it is going to take for them to be successful. Gary
Hi Kay, Right you are. Trust leads to respect and rapport both essential ingredients for learning and teaching success. Gary
Hi Gayle, All great ways to make it "real" for the students. These strategies are the key for good engagement throughout the course. Gary
Hi Stephen, Good strategies for keeping your students engaged even though they are scattered all over the world. The use of humor is always a way to bring people into the learning circle, set them at ease and then focus them on the next step. Good job. Gary

We all like to know results quickly, be they sports scores, medical reports or course grades.  With technology being what it is today is seems in many cases we know results before the event happened.  Our students are entering our classrooms with such technology supporting them so instant becomes a standard rather than an option.

To keep pace with this trend and to keep your students informed of their progress in the course attempt to return scored assignments, quizzes and projects at the next class meeting.  If this isn't possible then set a specific date when the work will be… >>>

HI Patricia, I really like this idea. You are keeping your students on the lookout for products and then by discussing a product each week you are showing them how they can remain current with their field. Also, they will have knowledge about such products when they are in their work situations. Gary
Hi Muhammad, Well developed instructional plan. You have a number of activities and strategies that can be used to keep the students engaged. I am sure this results in a high level of student satisfaction. Gary
Hi Gayle, Right you are. Application of content is so important for both retention and career growth. Good plan for getting your message across to your students. Gary
Hi Jayasree, Great professional development strategy. Exchange sessions like this are so beneficial to our growth and expertise expansion. Gary
