About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Lindsay, Your upbeat attitude shines through your forum comments. It sounds like you are having fun helping to prepare the next generation of workers in your field. What a great opportunity this is. Gary
Hi Allison, I like this approach. This creates a connection between the class and the requirements. They have signed the contract so there is no reason they cannot complete the requirements of that contract if they are willing to put forth the effort. Gary
Hi Lynn, Good point. Thanks for sharing it with us. We need to lay our expectations out and be consistent in enforcing them. This way the students start to get a taste of the work world that is going to be in their future very shortly. Also, I tell them that school is their job at this point in time so they need to conduct themselves just as they would if they were being paid instead of paying. Gary
Hi Kaytha, The syllabus is the road map for the course so it needs to be complete and clear. I like to use handouts as well because I can put current information in the handout and give it out as event unfold in the field. Gary
Hi Sandra, Right you are. This is what being a professional educator should be about. Gary
Hi Darlisa, Well said. This is what helps to "connect the dots" for students between the classroom and the real world. We may be the first professional they have encountered in their field so we are setting the standard for how a person show be for that career. A big responsibility we need to always keep in mind. Gary
Hi Andrea, Good strategy. It is engaging and effective just as you mention plus it enables the students reinforce the knowledge that has been presented to them. Gary
Hi Katrina, Right you are. This is one of the challenges we face with our students. They need to understand the concept of respect for each other and authority. It is missing in the lives of many students so we need to model respect and help them to earn from each other. Gary
Hi Anneke, I really like your style and classroom approach. We are educating students for a career and as a result we need to model what a professional in the field should be like. We are a reflection of what they want to become so we need to make sure that reflection is a professional one. Gary
Hi Lynn, Great to hear. Have fun with your creative planning as you look for ways to keep your students engaged and focused in the course. Gary
