About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi James, Good strategy. You are going to like the results due to the increased student engagement. Gary
Hi Marilyn, Try them I promise you will like them. They change the flow of the class enough to keep the students engaged and focused throughout the class session. Gary
Hi Taljmattie, So true. The more they are involved the more they will be engaged. By offering variety you are helping them to become a part of the learning process. Gary
Hi James, I like the way you open up a class. This gets the students thinking from the very beginning while helping you to get to know the students better. Gary
Hi Dawn, Good point. We really do want this so when a person in authority, like us gives them respect then they start to value the educational process even more. They are being validated for their efforts when respect is given by an instructor and they in turn develop respect for that instructor. Gary
Hi Ranee, A good support system is critical for adult students. The more we can help them identify their system the better prepared they will be to survive when hard times come their way. Gary
Hi George, Right you are. It is our duty as professionals to be prepared, to do less is to cheat our students and our career area. Gary
Hi Stevven, Good point and one that we instructors need to keep in the front of our minds. This way we can engage our students by offering instruction in their learning preference areas. Gary
Hi Joan, Love hearing from instructors that keep the zeal and zest for their field even after having taught for a number of years. It is teachers like you that help make English a part of the total career development process rather than reducing the course down to just a requirement. Thanks for sharing. Gary
Hi Kristyn, Good strategies. You have a great blend of methods that will appeal to the different learning preferences of your students. These ideas will help to get the students involved in the learning process. Gary
