About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi David, Students really like real life examples that support the content they are learning. The more you can use these stories to engage them the more focused the students will be. Gary
Hi Ray, Welcome to teaching. I wish you much teaching success as you gain experience. Thank you for sharing your first teaching experience with us. I think "time compression" has happened to us all when we started teaching. What looked so good and took so much time in practice somehow disappears when in front of students. I promise it will get better as you learn about other activities you can use and delivery options that engage students. Gary
Hi Jorge, Good for you. Passion for your field and the desire to share your knowledge with others helps to increase your teaching effectiveness. As you gain teaching experience you can expand your abilities to offer different ways of getting your content across to your students. Gary
Hi Ian, You have a very comprehensive approach to your instructional planning and this is good. This way you can pick a number of different options for use as you develop an understanding of the different learning preferences with your students. Gary
Hi Gloria, This is a good plan for part of your professional development. The more you can learn about instructional delivery the more options you will have from which to select the activities you want to use in your own classes. Gary
Hi May, Thank you for the clear and concise review of what a professional in the nursing field should be like. It is important for our students to see professionals in their field and then work to model those same characteristics. Gary
Hi Katrina, Wow, I am aw at the experience you are bringing to the school setting. I like your standards. We need to set the bar high for our students because those that meet the standards are those that are going to be successful. I am amazed at my students that do poor work, don't come to class or not good with social interactions and can't figure out why they aren't hired. Gary
Hi Rachelle, Students need to see how the dots connect to each other in relation to how the class content will prepare them for the future. You are doing that through the real world applications in your labs. Gary
Hi Rachelle, This type of opening creates a setting for positive learning. It is so much easier to build on this rather than trying to correct a poor first class meeting. Gary
Hi Charlin, So true. The more accurately we can target students' learning preferences the more engaged we can get them. Gary
