About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi John, Good plan and good balance. With this approach you are going to see enhanced learning and more engagement from your students. Gary
Hi Krystal, Good point. The human factor is an ongoing way of retaining students and helping them move toward the career goals they have. It is also one of the greatest rewards of teaching. Seeing their growth just as you mention. Gary
Hi Gloria, This type of greeting and welcome is so important to students of all ages but especially adults students that have been out of school for a while. They need to see value in the course and that they have a supportive instructor there to help them. You are meeting that need. Gary
Hi William, Good strategy. You are using your own life learning experiences as planning guides for your instructional delivery. This will help you to be more on target with your students. Gary
Hi Scott, I like this way to start a class. You are taking your course standards and customizing them to meet the need of that set of students. This is what good instructional planning is all about. Gary
Hi Mike, Give it a try. I think you will have great results as your students work through the different aspects of your course. Gary
Hi Danny, Right you are. How do you share your expectations and requirements with your students? Is it through a presentation the syllabus or some other means? Thanks for your input on this. Gary
Hi John, Your comments made me smile as I am always amazed as I start a new class when I find many of the students with the same look of puzzlement on their faces. Even with my upper level courses I have to define, refine, and illustrate what it takes to be successful in this course and their careers. Gary
Hi Katrina, This story is a sad one. I cannot imagine what this professor was thinking. He must have had some wires crossed in his brain to get satisfaction from belittling students. You make a good point and one that we need to always keep in our minds as we lead a class. Gary
Hi Ian, Good advice because many schools are going to a standardized format so once you get their format you can put your course specific material in it and you are good to go. Gary
