About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Fidencio, This is so important. You have to be clear on what, when, and why in terms of course operations. If you aren't it is going to be a course term full of repeated questions and dissatisfied students. Gary
Hi Jose, This is a very good idea because it informs the students and protects you. By having a clear policies you reduce the chances that students will challenge you when they don't perform as they should and you have to enforce the rules. Gary
Hi Angie, This is a good way to start a class. You are laying out the expectations so the students know what they are going to have to do to be successful. This reduces frustration and worry because they know what is required of them. Gary
Hi Roger, I agree this is a very effective way of getting insight on how to expand and improve instructional effectiveness. Always be on the look out for new ways you can provide instruction to your students. This will help you to keep fresh in your teaching approach. Gary
Hi Sheila, This is not uncommon with people persons. As you say you are getting better at letting them go at the end of the course. Always hard due to the investment but that is ok. Enjoy them, send them on their way and think about how great it is going to be to develop a relationship with the next bunch. Gary
Hi Sheila, It is a good strategy as evidenced by your comments. I use it a lot and have great success with it. It gets all the students involved and they enjoy their time of being the "expert". Gary
Hi Brian, You make a good point and one we need to always keep in mind as we allocate our time in helping students. We need to find balance in the use of the time but also provide direct instruction as needed with specific students. Gary
Hi LaToya, Sounds like your classes are fast moving, motivating and informative. Keep up the good work. I know your students really appreciate your efforts in helping them be successful in your class. Gary
Hi Jose, You sure did. Thank you for your great comments about how important the environment is on learning success. We need always to be aware of this as we get ready for out classes. Gary
Hi Angie, For many students the stability of a comfortable supportive learning environment is critical. They know while they are in the class they can forget briefly about life issues and concentrate on their future. Gary
