About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Sharon, Right you are about the need to keep striving for course improvement. This way the content remains fresh and appealing to students. Gary
Hi Aquila, Good point about student support. Older students need to be reassured that they can be successful in the course if they will put forth the effort. So the more encouragement that can be given the better. Gary
Hi Eric, Thank you for sharing the ways you stay on top of your instructional preparation and organization. Through your efforts and prompt feedback I know your students appreciate your interest in their success. Gary
Hi Dreena, I really appreciate your kind words about the course and my feedback. I wish you continued teaching success. Keep up the good work. Gary
Hi Helen, Thank you for the kind words. Glad we were able to be of help to you and your instructional development. I wish you much success in your teaching career. Gary
Hi Helen, Right you are. These "soft skills" are essential if students are going to be successful in their careers. So the more emphasis that can be put on them the better. Gary
Hi Lisa, So true. We instructors need to be comfortable in our own skin so to speak. We need to make sure we are reaching our students with our efforts but in a way that reflects who we are how and how we value our content. Gary
Hi Tauisha, I agree. Students need to have a voice and share in the class if they are going to be engaged. This way they feel that they are contributing to the learning process and are personally invested. Gary
Hi Kay, Good strategies. You are offering variety which is very important in learning as we know. This way students can see the flow of the class and use their preferences in acquiring the content. Gary
Hi Sheryl, I agree. Even in our age of technology humans still like interaction with each other. So when instructors are dramatic and dynamic in their delivery students are engaged. Also, students as you know love to hear stories from their instructors. An instructor that can tell stories with enthusiasm is going to keep the interest of students. So keep up the "performances" each time you enter the classroom. Gary
