About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Dianne, Good approach. This makes the content relevant for the students and they can make application to their careers. Gary
Hi Siamak, Stories like this are powerful for students to hear. They really help with motivation. Gary
Hi Siamak, I do agree that bringing the world into the classroom helps students to see the connection between school and their future. Gary
Hi Denise, Good way to set the stage for student success. By demonstrating professionalism you are showing the students what a person in the field should be like. Also, this gives them insight into the future that they are preparing for. Gary
Hi Beatrice, It is so important to help students to "connect the dots" between course content and their future. The more instructors can do this the more value students will associate with their schooling. Gary
Hi Clarence, I like the way you start your class. This sets the tone for success and builds from there. This is a great boost for the older students that are worrying about whether they can do the work or not. Gary
Hi Sharon, Right you are about students not liking surprises. The instructor needs to make everything clear so the students can see how they can be successful if they put forth the effort. Gary
Hi Jessica, So important for both the students and the instructor. A well prepared syllabus reduces many of the questions that students have so they can concentrate on getting settled into the course. Gary
Hi Gilbert, This is very important because if we don't the students will quickly fall behind and catching up will be very difficult for them in accelerated settings. Gary
Hi Daemon, Good point. If we remember where we come from and what are experiences were as students we will be more aware of how to target our instruction and keep students engaged. Gary
