About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Mary, I like to use games in my classes as well. Your "Defend Your Code" game sounds like fun plus reinforcing what the students have learned. Thanks for sharing this idea with us. Gary
Mary, Great list of items that contribute to professionalism. This sets you up for being a model that students can observe as they progress through the course. Gary
Michelle, So true and an important point for instructors to remember as they strive to reach each student. Gary
Kelly , This is what keeps me teaching. The "Ah-ha" moments are exciting for all instructors because this is why we are teachers in the first place. Good comments. Gary
Ann, Sounds like a great course for your students. Your offering of different learning options and variety I am sure kept them engaged and focused on the content. Gary
Ann, Good way to be of benefit to your students. You know what you wanted to know when you were a student and now you can use that experience to make sure you don't leave your students with voids in your expectations, requirements and polices. Gary
Bethanne, Good point about first impressions and the need to keep one's mind open to new perceptions based upon getting to know an individual. Gary
Sandy, Thank you for these great comments. You have zeroed in on what needs to be a part of instruction each and every time the class meets. We, instructors need to be role models and maintain high standards in our classes. If we don't we are not being fair to our students nor supportive of their career development. Gary
TC, Keep concept. This is why you need to have clear and concise goals and objectives. Gary
Sharif , So true. They are a great way to generate excitement in the course. They are models of what the students hope to become so they are really interesting to the students. Gary
