About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Bethanne, Good point about knowing the reason for enrollment. This gives you a great opportunity to establish rapport with such students and then you can target your instruction for them as needed. Gary
Abdul, So true. By establishing rapport with your students you are helping them to see that you want them to be successful and that you are there to support them as needed. This is a powerful motivational tool. Gary
Audrey, Good plan that I know will help to keep your students engaged. You are helping them to be able to use their different learning preferences at different times in the course. This really reinforces their focus on the content. Gary
Paula, Thank you for sharing the great story of success in terms of a simple but highly effective accommodation. You helped to make possible continued success for this student by listening, observing and then responding to her cognitive processing needs. Gary
Heinz, What have you found to be the most effective ways of showing your students an exercise or activity for their completion? Thanks for your input on this. Gary
Michael, You have great experience to help your students as a result of your current position as well as your background as an online student. You are helping your students to see the relevancy of what they are learning. Gary
Michael, Right you are. It is easy for instructors to forget that they are constantly being observed by students so they need to remind themselves that they are standard for their field. Gary
Jean, These videos give a good contrast about how one should approach the classroom. Gary
Brenda, How to you share your goals and objectives with your students? Thanks for your input on this. Gary
Jorge, Great way to set the stage for development of rapport and respect with your students. You are helping them to realize that you are in the field due to your love of preparing food and that you want to share your knowledge with them. You are being a role model for them. Gary
