About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Samantha, Good point about repetition and utilization of newly acquired content. You are helping the content become real to the students through their application sessions in the lab. Gary
Samantha, You are at a perfect time in the educational sequence of your students. They are coming to you ready to dig in and learn about their career area and you get to share with them content and your experiences. This is what makes teaching fun. Gary
Ward, I teach at night as well so I understand what you are talking about in relation to being enthusiastic to keep students engaged. Gary
Tom, Accessibility is so important for students to know about and take advantage of. You are showing them how much you value their success and that you are there to help them achieve it if they are willing to put forth the effort. Gary
Twyler Good way to show the students the value you place on the syllabus as well as the objectives you have set for the course. As you cross another one out they can graphically see that they are making progress in their career development. Gary
Sandy, So true. It is up to us to set the stage for learning to occur and we need to do that through our preparation and enthusiasm. Gary
Laura , Right you are. It helps the material come alive for them. Gary
Emeka, This is a great example of making something that might be seen as boring come alive with the examples that you are using. This creates a mental picture for the students that they won't soon forget. Gary
Jill, Good point in relation to reading the climate of the class and then offering strategies that will enable you to cope with the various dynamics that are occurring in the class. Gary
Marie, Good way to keep the content alive in the minds of the students. This is one of the fun parts of being an educator, trying to make something that is not the most exciting, exciting. Lets us be creative. Gary
