About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Michael, This is a great strategy to follow. Other eyes and experiences help to make your syllabus better. This way you know you have a solid and informative syllabus ready for your students. Gary
Lisa, A smile and a greeting "sells" big time. We all appreciate being welcomed this way and I know your students appreciate this effort from you. Gary
Michael, Good points about keeping a consistent message going from you to them. They see it, hear it and have it in their hands. There will continue to be questions but they are easier to answer because of the syllabus they have. Gary
August, I agree with your analysis of how we need to approach the classroom/lab with today's students. Targeting their learning needs and providing instructional support is essential. Gary
Mark, You are making English relevant for them with this approach. They must be effective communicators so they more expertise they can develop in this area the greater their chances of success. Gary
Mark, Good comments about how to demonstrate your professionalism. This is so important for the students to see because their instructor may be the first person they have spent time with that has experience in their career field. Gary
Dalisay, What are some ways you can do this? Gary
August, Well said. This is what demonstrates to the students that you are there to help them move toward their career goals as a dedicated professional educator. Gary
Theodore, I agree. I use them a lot in my instruction and they really help the students to see how all of the parts of the concepts fit together to create the total picture. Gary
Caryn, Students like stories because they help them to see the value of the content that has been shared. They can make application of content as a result of the concrete examples that are shared through the stories. Keep up the story telling. Gary
