About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Tracy, I think your analysis of the current group of learners is right on. They need and want to be actively involved in the learning process or they start to disconnect. Gary
Susana, Students are a great resource to use and many instructors overlook their use. Your comments are right on about how the students respond to each other. Thanks for sharing this strategy with us. Gary
Beverly, Welcome to teaching. I wish you much success in education as you get to share your knowledge of your field while impacting the lives and future of your students. You are on the right path as you develop your instructional style and expand your expertise as an instructor. Gary
Mark, It is critical to get buy-in from students and you have spoken as an experienced educator when you say it can be a challenge in even high interest areas like nursing. It is fun to work at being creative in getting students to buy-in to the course content and seeing them progress in their learning. Gary
Michael, This is a good point and one we need to keep in mind as we bring our professionalism to the classroom. Gary
Karen, So true and so important. We need to make sure we are good listeners to what the students are saying both verbally and non-verbally. Gary
Hi Joe, This is a good strategy to follow to overcome the challenges you have outlined in your comments. The syllabus needs to be tied directly into the course and yet many school chains use generic ones. By creating the course prospectus you are making sure your information is current and accurate. Gary
Anton, Thank you for sharing this example of what excitement and enthusiasm can do for the climate of a classroom/lab and school setting. I know this information will encourage other instructors as well. Gary
Angela, Can you expand on this so I can understand how you view the development of your instructional style? Thanks for your input. Gary
Daniel, This is an effective way to approach the classroom. By offering variety in learning opportunities you are hitting upon the different learning preferences of your students which will result in a higher level of engagement. Gary
