About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Kerry, Good strategy. They are bringing a wide variety of life experiences to the classroom so why not use these experiences to build on the course content. Gary
Christina, Good motivating tools. Students like to hear stories about the field and when they get to see their field in action through field trips it really seals the deal for them. They get to see relevancy to what they are learning. Gary
Sandra, Great to hear about the value you are gaining from these courses. I wish you much success in all your teaching efforts. Gary
Wendy, Yes, you do. The key is to keep balance in all of your efforts so you are able to be the learning leader as you work through the different needs of students. Gary
Sharnel, Not sure what this statement means. Can you expand your thinking on this? Gary
Sandra, Good point about how we need to work with adult learners. We need to be supportive in the learning process so they don't feel like they don't belong in the classroom. Some are looking for excuses to fail because they are uncertain about their potential for success. Gary
Lisa, When faced with such a situation I create an addendum. In it I put all of the critical information needed for my students. This way I am using the administrations syllabus in addition to giving the needed information for my course. Gary
Edward, Good strategy. It gives them time to internalize of the new content so they are ready to apply it at the next class session. Gary
Jennifer, Good suggestions for expanding your professional development and expertise. This effort is always ongoing and that helps to make it exciting since we are all constantly learning new things about how to be more effective instructors. Gary
Tracy, Thanks for sharing the Chef picture. I have a clear picture of how it is used in my mind and I don't know anything about your field other than to like what you all produce. I know this is going to be of help to other instructors. Gary
