About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Jewell, Well said. I like the example you use of the GPS. These devices really work if we are willing to follow the information they give us, it is when we try to out think them that we get in trouble which is not uncommon for students. Gary
Bridget, Good point. Everyone can teach you something if you are willing to learn from them both from a positive as well as negative perspective. Gary
Lori, Welcome to education and teaching. I know with your 30 plus years of experience you have much to offer your students. Your attitude and confidence shine through in your comments so I know you are going to be successful. I wish you a most rewarding and enjoyable teaching career. Gary
Matthew, Good comments about the education of the total student. You hit on both the technical and soft skills needed for career success. Your definition of professionalism is one that other instructors should consider as they define professionalism for themselves. Gary
Holt, I agree with you about the value of these field trips. I make service learning a part of my classes because it gets the students out in the field and using some of their newly developed skills. It helps give them a picture of the work world they are about to enter. Gary
Holt, Good way to provide different learning opportunities, change of pace and learning preference venues. All of these contribute to the student being engaged and focused on the content. Gary
Niurka, So important. What are some strategies that you have used with success in reinforcing your students? I know this will be valuable information for other instructors. Gary
Jack, Students, as you know really like hearing stories about their instructors' experiences. Helps to bring relevancy to what they are studying. Good point. Gary
William, This is why I like the syllabus as well. It gives a point of reference for the students and helps to reduce misunderstandings. Gary
Ron, I am sure this results in some very interesting discussions. Way to go in helping them to see the future in relation to the course content. Gary
