About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Fred, Our students really need reinforcement. My students are adults that are trying to reinvent their careers so they need to see that they can be successful and that they can once again put themselves on a positive career track. Gary
Brian, I like where you are coming from. We need to set the bar high and then provide the support needed to help the students get over the bar. Their competence is what is going to help them have successful careers so we need to do our best to reflect the standards of their field as we work through the instructional process. Gary
Brian, Great to hear. I wish you continued success in your teaching an the impact you have on the lives of your students. Gary
Ruth, Your last sentence says it all. Students need to see a reason for being in the class and excited about the content. It is up to the instructor to bring that to the class setting. Gary
Paul, I agree about the need for passion in teaching. If you bring it to the classroom the majority of students will see it and become more engaged in the learning process. Enthusiasm is catching. Gary
Ana, What are some other things you do to create a positive first impression? Gary
Kimberly, Good points about the first impression and the message you want to sent to your students. With a good first impression you can get them settled into the course much quicker. Gary
Bridget, This is true about getting the students settled into the course with positive attitudes through a good first impression. Even if the students don't like you you can earn their respect by always being professional and supportive. This is an important characteristic of an educator and I am satisfied knowing that I have done my best to engage the students in the learning process. Gary
Lori, This experience will help you to develop your own. In addition, ask around and try to get some samples from your colleagues. This will help you to save time in figuring out exactly what you want to put in your syllabus. Gary
Septimiu, Right you are about the need for creating a clean and supportive learning environment for your students. Gary
