About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

James, Good approach on keeping the students engaged. I teach a 6 hour block course so I understand the challenges you are facing. You do have to wear many different hats and play different roles throughout the course duration. This is how you keep students engaged and focused. Keep up the good work. Gary
James, Good way to reinforce the expectations and requirements of the course with this two stage approach. They receive the information and then have it reviewed the next class meeting. This should reduce the misunderstandings that arise with students. Gary
James, Good way to make the content relevant to the lives of the students. This increases the ROI for the students as they work through the course. Gary
Edward, Good way to maintain the standards of the course while still accommodating the various situations that students come up with throughout the course. Gary
Matthew, This is a great way to set the stage for student expectations and outcomes. With this diverse approach they are receiving the information in different ways and this will help them to retain it for future use. Gary
Edward, There is so much value in this type of approach for the reasons listed. We need to remember this when we plan the start of a new class. Gary
Teri, With clear goals and objectives things go so much better. I have to have them clearly laid out for myself as well as my students or I don't feel in control of the learning environment. Good point, thanks for sharing it. Gary
Hartwell, This is an excellent way to expand your knowledge and expertise as an educator. By being mentored you are gaining insight from those that can help you to become the educator you want to be and in return you can mentor other instructors that are seeking to become instructional delivery experts. Gary
Rick, This format helps to create a connection between the mind of students and their abilities to internalize the content that is being shared with them. Gary
Miguel, Well said. With the variety coming to our classes it is fun to plan because we get to be creative in our approaches. Gary
