About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

James, I use color coding as well and have great results with this method. It parallels the success you have had. Color is a memory trigger for cognitive processing as well so knowledge retention is higher when color is used. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Colleen, Good way to reinforce the key concepts of the course. Graphic organizers help the students to connect the dots between content, knowledge retention and application. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Chan, Yes, they are. As a result we instructors need to make sure we are sharing content and skill development opportunities that reflect the critical knowledge/skills needed for career success. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
James, Right you are. College students have selected to be in the course as a result of their choosing a career area. As a result they need to see the value of what they are being taught and asked to apply in the future. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Jennifer, I think you will be pleased with the results you get from your students when you incorporate strategies based upon the different intelligences. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Emily, Good way to increase reflection on answers as well. The pause has everyone working through their memories seeking to find the answer to the question that has been asked. They know that with this technique everyone has an opportunity to answer rather than the person that is quickest with a response. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kelly, This is a compliment to you as a role model for your students and the success you have achieved in your profession. Gary Dr. Gary Meers

Judith, This is a great way to encourage student cooperation and interaction. I am sure your students really enjoy this activity. Thank you for sharing it with us. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
